WP1: Project, pipeline & stakeholder management

 
Purpose:

Provide governance, coordination, data management, and stakeholder engagement to maximise scientific progress and long-term impact.

WP2: Engineered antibacterial phage proteins

 
Purpose:

Develop engineered bacteriophage-derived proteins (lysins) as precision antibacterials against difficult-to-treat systemic and polymicrobial wound Gram-negative bacterial infections.

Lead partner:

GSK

Contributing partners:

GSK R&D, Obulytix BV, University of Copenhagen, Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA)

Main deliverables:
  • Libraries of engineered lysins with novel modes of action
  • Proof-of-concept efficacy in relevant infection models
  • Preclinical candidate molecules ready for further development

WP3: Transposon sequencing (TnSeq) for target identification

 
Purpose:

Use advanced genome-wide screening to identify new antibacterial targets, particularly for bacteria that survive inside human cells.

Lead partner:

University of Dundee 

Contributing partners:

GSK, GSK R&D, Quadram Institute 

Main deliverables:
  • Validated TnSeq pipelines for intracellular bacteria
  • Identification of novel targets and chemical series
  • A knowledge base for host–pathogen interactions

WP4: Targeted protein degradation

 
Purpose:

Apply protein degradation technologies (e.g. PROTACs) to target bacterial proteins that are inaccessible to conventional antibiotics.

Francis Crick Institute

Contributing partners:

University of Dundee, GSK, GSK R&D, University of Manchester, TB Alliance

Main deliverables:
  • Proof-of-concept targeted protein degradation in bacteria
  • Lead molecules for tuberculosis and intracellular infections
  • New degradation strategies for antimicrobial drug discovery

WP5: Nanofitin conjugates

 
Purpose:

Develop Nanofitin-based delivery systems to improve targeting, safety, and pharmacokinetics of antibacterial biologics.

Lead partner:

Affilogic 

Main deliverables:
  • Nanofitin conjugates for pathogen targeting and half-life extension
  • Proof-of-concept delivery of antimicrobial peptides and lysins
  • Validation of Nanofitins as a scalable delivery platform

WP6: Long-acting therapeutics (LAT)

 
Purpose:

Create long-acting formulations that improve drug exposure and patient adherence, particularly for diseases like tuberculosis.

Lead partner:

University of Liverpool

Contributing partner:

TB Alliance

Main deliverables:
  • Long-acting injectable formulation candidates
  • Preclinical pharmacokinetic proof-of-concept
  • At least one LAT advanced toward preclinical candidate status
